This is part 2 of a post from Saturday on refinishing furniture for budget home renovations. To further highlight the amazing things you can do with the help of Craigslist, a little bit of blood sweat and tears, and minimal cash, behold our new dining room hutch:

We bought this hutch for $90 from an older woman on Craigslist. Sadly, I do not have a before picture of the front to show just how bad it looked when we bought it, but I do have this picture from the top of it:

We had to replace the entire top board of the hutch, as well as the hardware. It was painted a thin coat of white with the original brown showing through, and two of the doors were cracked down the middle. My husband was a little dubious about the possibility of ever making it presentable, but all I could see was a world of possibilities.

After a ton of sanding, priming, wood filling, and painting, I am just in love with it. Sure, I could have spent $400 on a brand new one, but where’s the fun in that?

I was able to decorate the shelves with our formal china as well as a few other items from around our house. We found the cabinet hardware (along with the crystal knobs pictured above) at Target on clearance for 50% off.

Overall cost: Cabinet ($90) + Hardware ($22.37) + Paint ($12.50)= $124.87
