This may seem like a simple procedure, you go to different stores, you get the registering gun and you go wild. I unfortunately had to make it complicated for myself. I not only invited my mother to come, but my mother-in-law as well. So, of course, me being clueless as to what I should get and kindly asking for some advice on what the best brand of cookware is, whether I wanted non-stick or stainless steel, you get the picture….the list could go on. I’ll be honest, I still consider myself a kitchen rookie. So, you can imagine how I started off. One mom would offer up the advice that this brand worked best for her while the other mom would then say well your grandmother and I both use this brand and it’s always held up for us. There I stood, scanning gun in hand shakingly having no idea which one to pick and fearing offending one or the other. So, the first and most important piece of advice I can offer to you is for the love, go with just you and your fiance. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did. It’s not the happy-go-lucky bonding experience I had first anticipated.
Secondly, in case you haven’t heard Bed Bath and Beyond has GOT to be the best possible place you could register, ever. They allow you to return anything you have ever bought there, without a receipt. DH and I just literally returned a toaster oven that we got as a gift from BB&B from our wedding (a year and a half ago) about a month ago and we got to exchange it no problem for a regular toaster. They are so friendly, and willing to assist you as well. They make it as easy as possible to register, return and even get cash back if you must make a return. Another great thing about Bed Bath & Beyond is that they have an online registry, so those who don’t live in the same city as you can still pick it out and just ship it to your house. Also, with Bed Bath and Beyond, you can almost always find one of their coupons available. The first time you sign up for coupons at the link provided, you get a 20% off coupon! They also take expired coupons.

Lastly, register as soon as you possibly can. The sooner you register, the sooner you can start getting presents off that registry versus random ones for birthdays, Christmas, Easter baskets, Valentine’s etc. So many times it’s the little things that are so practical that you don’t get, like measuring cups, aprons, small towels, coat hangers, you get the point…that would be perfect as a stocking stuffer or little Easter basket treat.
One of my favorite gifts that I got from one of my showers was actually from Jessica, my blogging partner and her DH. I don’t think I’ve told her this before, but it was so special. She got together a picnic style basket and put hand written recipes on cards in it, as well as lots of small cooking utensils and kept it all within that theme. She had everything laying on a pretty red cloth and most everything in the basket was black and white since that’s what colors we used in our kitchen. It was precious! I wish I had a picture to show you all, but it’s a great DIY idea for any bride to be or anyone for a fun gift.
