In an attempt to actually get our Wedding Wednesday post up on time this go-round, I’ve decided to dedicate my lunch hour to put this up. I’m sure a lot of you have seen this first DIY, unique detail I’m about to share about. The picture above is my husband and I’s picture frame/guest book. We simply went to Hobby Lobby when they had their picture frames 1/2 off and purchased the frame and matting. Next, we agreed on an engagement shot done by out friend, Brad Roller, placed it in the frame, brought some Sharpies to the rehearsal dinner and got our dearest friends & family to sign it. The plan was to also have it signed at the wedding as well but DH forgot the Sharpies, baha. These kind of things are bound to happen! Anyway, this now provides a great, personal decoration in our bedroom. We also had a regular guest book out at the wedding for our guests to sign that we got very inexpensively off the internet.

While we’re on the subject of photography, that’s probably one thing you’re not wanting to skimp on, because those pictures are PRICELESS! We were lucky enough to have our friend mentioned above do my bridal portraits and our engagement shoot for a discounted rate because I did the bridal portraits to help him build his portfolio, and then only paid for the engagement shoot. Sometimes, you can luck out like this when you know talented photographers that are just getting their foot in the door. Then, Bob, from Plus Bob photography, did our actual wedding and we feel so honored to have such talented friends who were willing to work with us! If you are not as lucky, you may want to ask your photographer if they have an associate photographer who will do it for a better price.

Some general guidelines for saving money while planning your wedding would be to plan it during the “off season” for weddings. AKA, not in the summer! Also, many times if you book on a day other than Saturday, you can get a break in price. This is becoming more and more common it seems. I know this is pretty self-explanatory, but really and truly, you can save A LOT of money by cutting down on your guest list. It’s hard, trust me, I know. However, when you have a tight budget some things must be sacrificed and really do you want your mom’s 3rd cousin there or that guy you said “hi!” once to in biology class to be there? The smaller it is, the more likely you are to have those around you that really do want the best for you!
